The Jewish Council of Australia Does Not Represent Me!
The issue
The Jewish Council of Australia (JCA), has made a number of public statements that do not reflect the views and beliefs of many in our community. As members of this diverse community, it is crucial that we clarify that their statements and JCA do not represent us.
The Jewish community in Australia is rich in diversity, encompassing a wide range of opinions, beliefs, and values. JCA's recent public statements have caused concern among many of us, as they do not align with our views or the values we hold dear.
We, the undersigned, feel that the JCA’s and its representatives' accusations against Israel of genocide, their support for the pro-Palestinian protest movement, and their criticism of Jillian Segal’s appointment as Australia's first anti-Semitism envoy do not align with our perspectives. These statements have led to misrepresentations of our community's values and beliefs.
We urge the Australian Jewish community to sign this letter to demonstrate our lack of support for the JCA as the body who purports to represent us.
We request that the Australian media be reminded that statements by the Jewish Council of Australia should not be presented as a majority voice or representative body of the Australian Jewish community. Our primary organization, the Executive Council of Australian Jewry (ECAJ), represents the Australian Jewish community in dealings with the Federal government, parliamentary inquiries, national law enforcement agencies, and the national media. Additionally, the ECAJ can facilitate contact between the media and other Jewish organizations for diverse perspectives.
