Gilmer County, West Virginia - we are facing an imminent threat from the proposed Valley Link Transmission Line project. This project threatens to significantly impact generational farms, family homes, and landscapes that have been an integral part of our families and communities for generations. The land that carries years of hard work, sacrifice and family history in Gilmer County is where many of our ancestors worked the soil and where many of us hope to leave a legacy for generations to come… our future is now at risk!

     The proposed transmission line would not only permanently alter the beauty and character of our rural landscapes,  it could also have significant implications for property values. The presence of large transmission structures may discourage potential buyers and negatively affect property values, placing financial strain on families whose land and homes represent much of their life’s investment.

     Many residents also have concerns about the potential impact of high-voltage transmission lines on the health and well-being of people living nearby. Questions surrounding long-term exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMFs) and the proximity of large-scale utility infrastructure deserve careful consideration and further evaluation before decisions are made that could permanently affect our community. In addition, the project threatens to disrupt local ecosystems, wildlife habitats, forests, streams and farmland that are essential to the character and natural beauty of Gilmer County.

     Gilmer County stands to lose not only valuable land, but also the peace, heritage and rural way of life that so many families cherish. We understand the need for infrastructure improvements and reliable energy systems. However, we urge project leaders and decision-makers to fully consider alternative routes and solutions that minimize impacts on homes, farms, private property and the communities that would bear the burden of this project. We call upon decision-makers and stakeholders involved in the Valley Link Transmission Line project to listen to the voices of Gilmer County residents.

     We ask that our statements be respected and that the Valley Link Transmission Line decision-makers and stakeholders work with our communities, protect private property rights, preserve our agricultural heritage, and seek solutions that balance infrastructure needs with the well-being of the people directly affected.
