Force the RCMP to Allow Journalists to do Their Jobs on Wet'suwet'en Land
The Issue
If it is safe enough for Coastal Gas Link employees to do their jobs on Wet'Suwet'en land, it is safe enough for journalists to do theirs too. RCMP willingness to threaten journalists with arrest for doing their jobs, based on the outright lie of a risk to their own safety (from anyone but the RCMP) is so authoritarian it flies in the face of everything we've ever been told about our free and fair society. This is not the first time journalists have been prevented by authorities from doing their jobs under the guise of "safety" when it comes to First Nations in Canada having their rights stepped on (Oka is another example). Freedom of the press is one of the most important concepts in a free society and this clear abuse of power must be stopped.
