Legalise Cannabis for Recreational Use in Ireland

The Issue

I believe that Cannabis should be legal in the Republic of Ireland for many reasons. Although I am not a Cannabis user myself I understand the benefits of legalising Cannabis for recreational use in the Republic of Ireland, not only for the users, but for the State also. In 2019, Colorado collected more than $302 million in taxes and fees on medical and recreational marijuana. Sales in the state totaled over $1.7 billion. Sales in the U.S were $12.2 billion in 2019 and projected to increase to $31.1 billion by 2024, according to a report from Arcview Market Research and BDS Analytics.

Cannabis is often associated with 'stoners' who are often seen as lazy people who sit around all day 'smoking weed'. However this is not the case as the amount of everyday people that use Cannabis to wind down from a hard days work in countries like the United States and Canada is staggering at almost 27.2 million people PER MONTH. Cannabis also has many benefits for your health such as:

  • Arthritis Pains, Headaches, Backaches, Muscle Aches, General Pain.
  • Anxiety (Taken in monitored dosage and in the proper way, cannabis can help alleviate anxiety and calm users down. e.g CBD Oil.)
  • Relieve Stress and Depression (The endocannabinoid compounds in cannabis can help in stabilising moods which can ease depression.)
  • ADHD, ADD, Autism (Cannabis has shown promise in promoting focus and helping individuals with ADHD/ADD. It is also considered a safer alternative to Adderall and Ritalin. It can also help control mood swings in people with Autism.)
  • Provide Releif to individuals with MS & Parkinsons.
  • Aids in the curing of Alcoholism.

In Ireland, people are always using the expression 'They should legalise cannabis' Well 'they' is you and nothing will be done about it until the government of our country see that its a genuine concern for the public. Thank you. Please don't forget to share.
