VERY URGENT - we need to raise £1,500 to cover legal expenses for unforeseen additional work for Myrtle's application to receive the state support and care that she requires.
Once the money has been raised, the application will be submitted and we are extremely hopeful that she will then be granted the support she needs.
Last Sunday, paramedics were called as Myrtle had chest pains - and Mary is terrified that her Mum will not be able to access the social care she urgently needs - solely because of her immigration status.
Any donation - however small - will help us fight for the support Myrtle needs.
Your support so far has been absolutely amazing and has been a life saver! If you could contribute anything at all to this appeal, it would mean the world to Mary & Myrtle!
Thank you once again so much for donating and for sharing the fundraiser!
Background
In May last year, Mary’s husband of 33 years, Dave, passed away. Dave was an incredibly caring, brave and wonderful husband and son-in-law to Myrtle.
During the Pandemic, despite suffering from debilitating Parkinson’s, he worked part time as a frontline worker, a supermarket cashier, and supported the family financially and emotionally. As a result of his death and the loss of his financial support to the household, Mary and Myrtle have fallen on hard times and are facing destitution.
Yet, even though Mary is a British citizen and Myrtle is in need of her care, Mary isn’t allowed to claim carer’s allowance because of Myrtle’s immigration situation.
And Myrtle cannot get any additional home care as her health is getting worse.
With YOUR support, we can challenge this so that both Myrtle and Mary can get the necessary support. Your kind donations have saved Myrtle in the past from being sent back to South Africa.
Now your donations are helping so that she can live out her days in dignity with the support she needs.
THANK YOU for all your kind help! It's a life saver!
