Thank you for signing the petition into Truth in Media reform.

As all of you are no doubt aware, since I organised this petition over a year ago, the media landscape has deteriorated even further. Murdoch operates effectively as the propaganda arm of the Liberal Party, supported by Nine Fairfax and Seven West Media. When I set up this petition, I recognised News Corp as the major culprit and wanted to ensure that Australia took a leaf out of Canada's truth in media laws. I now recognise that this needs to be more widespread - covering all media including the ABC (which in recent times has itself deteriorated) as well as commercial media outlets in print, TV, radio and of course online.

Today, former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd set up a petition directly with the Australian Parliament seeking to instigate a Royal Commission into the news media in Australia.

I note that due to significant demand by many in the community to sign the Rudd petition, the Parliament House website is slow, but please persist and make sure your voice is heard.
