Hello to our 1,700 greatly appreciated signatories! Thank you.
I was only expecting a few hundred people to sign this but clearly the injustice of the rich getting richer and the less rich having to breathe more pollution and deal with more congestion and road rage as a result is touching many.
But how else can I help?- you would be foolish to ask! Actually, it will take you three minutes.First, don’t believe what the Herts Ad tells you- you do still have time to object to the Woollam Park development. Send your objection to
email: planningcomments@stalbans.gov.uk
Not sure how to complain? Here are the four major issues on which this development should fail.
flooding
green belt
heartwood
highways
In yesterday’s update we wrote about the impact on Heartwood Forest of building 1100 homes. Today, we concentrate on flooding.
The site includes land within a designated surface water floodplain, and building homes there—particularly affordable housing in the lowest areas—let the poorer homeowners suffer the most - is simply reckless and unethical. Flooding isn’t just a remote possibility; with climate change and increasingly extreme weather, it’s a growing probability. Once these homes are built, any failure in the proposed pumping systems could leave families facing flooded homes, destroyed belongings, and years of disruption. It’s not just people who’ll be affected—the overflow risks damaging rare chalk streams and local wildlife habitats. This isn’t responsible planning; it’s short-sighted and dangerous. Don’t build on a flood plain is simple common sense to most people unless dazzled by pound signs.
Your objection might look something like this:-
’Objection to Application 5/2024/2271 Woollam Park’
I object to the Woollam Park development on the grounds that you are building on a flood plain which will need a constant operational pumping station to ensure the land does not flood. Only really stupid or greedy people would create such a disaster in the making. (That last line is optional!)
Add your name and that’s it!
Please email your objection based on one of those four issues as soon as you can to: planningcomments@stalbans.gov.uk
Thank you,
Damian
