How is the enhancement law constitutional?

For example ; how can a state take a misdemeanor offense and enhance that to a FELONY ; just bc you had 2 misdemeanors of the same classification prior?

Per the 5th ammendment, states that no person shall be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb.

This enhancement program seems to violate several constitutional rights:

 8th cruel and unusual punishment-

 the enchancement exceeds rightful prescribed punishment , the states are literally doubling your charge bc of closed case priors. 

14th - pursuit of happiness & liberty

 There is no life or liberty in an extended stay in prison. And let us not forget how a misdemeanor ; enchanced to a felony-  will literally destroy your entire life!

5th -free of double jeopardy 

you are convicted of a crime twice if a closed case is reopened to form a judgement during the enchancement process.

I understand the reasoning for the enhancement program. But it does not seem to align with our constitutional rights. 

WE THE PEOPLE are promised our uncompromised constitutional rights , its one of the many reasons we pay taxes & live here. 

Therefor ; this program should not exist  Despite who actually supports it. 

It is  UN American to make our citizens suffer in confinement longer than thier crime was actually deserving. 

And sadly ; drugs , undiagnosed mental conditions,  , poverty  ,  accounts for 80 perc of offenders. Let that sink in. 

Spend our tax dollars building more statr funded rehabs, mental intitutes. Increase the wage to an amount ppl can live comfortably. 

Thats how you reduce crime & heal a nation.
