The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to protect Christians

The Issue

To Kim Jong Un, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK)s:

In 1 Corinthians 12:12–27, we are reminded that just as the body is one and has many members, all members of the body, though many, are one body. This powerful scripture speaks to my heart and reflects my personal conviction for the Christian community in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), which faces numerous challenges in practicing their faith freely.

Christianity in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) has experienced significant challenges over the past decades, with adherents devoted to living a life guided by faith and compassion. Nevertheless, despite perseverance, the faithful in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) continue to face obstacles that inhibit their ability to worship without fear, including strict regulations, and surveillance practices, etc.

We, the undersigned, respectfully urge the Government of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to uphold and protect the human right to freedom of religion and belief for Christians.

We respectfully implore that the Government of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) recognizes and upholds the religious freedoms enshrined in its Constitution, which states that citizens enjoy freedom of religious belief. Additionally, international human rights frameworks, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, advocate for these fundamental freedoms.

Our call to action involves the removal of restrictive policies that limit the establishment and functioning of religious communities, ensuring that Christians can practice their faith openly and without fear.

We urge the Government of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) to bolster efforts to protect and promote religious freedoms for all its citizens, allowing the Christian community to thrive and contribute positively to society.

Please sign this petition to send a strong message to authorities in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) that religious freedom is a right that should be protected for everyone. Your support can make a difference in the lives of many who simply wish to live out their faith without fear.

We express concern regarding reports of restrictions, surveillance, detention, and suppression affecting Christians and Christian communities in various regions of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). We believe that peaceful religious practice — including the ability to worship, gather, and express Christian faith without fear — is a fundamental matter of human dignity recognized in international human rights principles.
