Petition updateThe CTA Must Stop Laying Off Good Workers!Second Chance "Apprentice" Grievance Rights Obliterated Again

ATU Local 308 Vice President Mark Weems led a devastating assault on Second Chance Program "Apprentices" at the June membership meeting when he stacked his loyalists against the minority of union members who were bold enough to show up to defy him.

He proved that he is a loyal agent for our employer—and not an agent for the welfare of members who pay his exorbitant, six-digit salary. His treason is shared by President Pennie McCoach, the attorney we pay over $200,000 salary, Anita Tanay and almost every single union representative.

Denying these poor, exploited men and women the right to file grievances is antithetical to our union Constitution and Bylaws. Using ambiguous language in Attachment O to justify this travesty is immoral. In fact, it is demonic.

This was a huge loss for the members of the Amalgamated Transit Union. Although I am deeply saddened—and filled with rage against him—I will not quit fighting for this issue until we make a true apprentice program with a direct path to Full-Time Permanent Servicer and Janitor jobs.

I will never forget the treason of Vice President Weems. I hope you will not either. I pray that whatever God he worships will be merciful to him on Judgement Day.
