I just learned that A.A. Milne — the author of Winnie-the-Pooh — was a WWI veteran who struggled with trauma from the battlefield. Many believe his characters reflect hidden mental health struggles:
🐻 Pooh → comfort-seeking
🐷 Piglet → anxiety
🐯 Tigger → impulsivity
🐰 Rabbit → controlling
🐴 Eeyore → depression
As a kid, I never noticed. Looking back now, I see it so clearly — just like I see the patterns of trauma and silent suffering in my dad’s life as a Vietnam veteran.
Many generations often suppressed it — sometimes channeling it into art, but too often it came out as addiction, PTSD, illness, or silence.
And it hit me today:
✨ What Milne did for children, I am trying to do for veterans.
He turned pain into a story we could understand. I am trying to turn my father’s pain into reforms, truth, and a campaign for change.
Because behind every “Eeyore” is someone who deserved help, and behind every silent soldier was a story worth hearing.
