FIX THE VA — Don’t Cut the Heart Out of It
🇺🇸 A message from the Conn Act campaign
As leadership changes loom over the Department of Veterans Affairs, we must be clear:
The problem isn’t the people. It’s the system.
Slashing staff won’t fix:
• Broken scheduling systems
• E-consults replacing real doctor visits
• Delayed referrals
• Lost records
• Poor charting and communication
• Burned-out caregivers and unsupported families
Cutting the wrong people instead of fixing the system will only deepen the crisis.
Veterans and families are already paying the price through:
• Misdiagnoses
• Missed follow-up
• Preventable deaths
• Emotional trauma with no justice
What’s needed is reform — not reduction.
✅ A national charting system
✅ More case managers, not fewer
✅ Tech upgrades to replace outdated software
✅ Oversight and accountability
✅ Expanded support for caregivers
✅ More real providers, fewer virtual “e-consults”
Layoffs won’t fix this. They’ll make it worse.
Expect:
• More burnout
• More staff turnover
• More reassignment and early retirement
• More harm to veterans and families
If Congress or future leaders want to save money — they should start by saving lives.
