If millions of people in The United States were facing death secondary to a shortage of water brought on by a natural disaster, would the companies that sell water be permitted to gouge their prices 300% so that people without resources would perish?  Laws exist preventing merchants from doing so in a disaster.  More than seven million people in the United States rely on Insulin every day to live.

The 300% increase in insulin pricing since 2001 by the big three manufacturers, Sanofi, Nova Nordisk, and Eli Lilly (“The Big3”), leaves our vulnerable population one over-priced vial of Insulin away from death.  People are dying from the Big3 price gouging Insulin, a substance as vital as water for all humans.

We need Federal Legislation preventing companies that sell Insulin from gouging their prices and killing people in the United States:

The American Insulin Accessibility Act is our concept for Federal legislation that:          1) classifies Insulin as a “hormone” removing it from the American prescription drug supply chain,
2) bans companies from selling Insulin on the US market at more than 2x the cost of production and,
3) sets a negotiated price for Insulin that the US Government will subsidize for the millions of us in the US who require daily Insulin to live.
