The Issue

Over the last decade, funding for Saskatchewan schools has failed to keep up with the rapid enrolment growth from the ever-increasing population.  This has led to a severe decrease in student funding. We, the people of Saskatchewan, request that the Sask Party and government take the following actions: reduce class size, address class complexity, reinstate classroom specialists, aides, and assistants, as well as provide better care for the individualized needs of all students. Resources that children rely on have had their funding cut back and are now unavailable; this is preventing our youth from succeeding and thriving in the classroom. This also puts incredible pressure, strain, and stress on one single teacher, which ultimately contributes to the lack of teachers in Saskatchewan.

All following statistics come from the STF (Saskatchewan Teachers Federation), an organization that advocates for public education and teacher's rights in SK, Canada.  Check out the STF website here for more information.

Between 2016 - 2017 and 2023 - 2024, student enrolment grew by more than 15,000 students or 8,8%, while full-time teachers only increased by 0.1%.  This means that in 2023 - 2024 we only received 10 more full-time teachers than in 2016 - 2017, but over 15,000 more students.

In the 2025 member survey, 96% of respondents (strongly) agreed that classroom complexity increases the demands of meeting student needs and contributes to their emotional, physical, or mental fatigue

Continuing in the same 2025 survey, 87% of respondents said it was (very) important to have specialists such as speech language pathologists and educational psychologists readily accessible when needed. Only 16% (strongly) agreed that these professionals were readily available.

The STF survey found that 73%  of teachers reported not having enough time to complete necessary activities, including lesson planning, assessments, and contacting parents.

According to government data, Saskatchewan's per-student education funding was $1,483 lower in 2025 - 2026 than it was a decade ago.

These statistics show that Saskatchewan's enrollment growth and increasing classroom complexity are putting an insane amount of pressure on teachers and schools. The statistics outline the immediate need for more funding, more support staff, and better resources for every student in order for them to succeed.

By signing this petition,  you are helping create a better classroom environment for teachers and students alike. You are standing with us by calling out the provincial government and its education sector for more funds for our schools, teachers, staff, and students.
