We ask Council Members to reconsider their decision and extend a three year lease to the Victor Harbor Farmers Market with the current charter, as agreed in the market inception in 2008.
The issue
The Victor Harbor Farmer's Market is a weekly event that is enjoyed by both locals and visitors to the region. It fosters a rich sense of community and is a source of pride for many locals. The market not only supports local and South Australian vendors, but also local businesses who experience a flow-on effect each week when the market is held.
As locals we want to buy and enjoy local produce whenever we can. We also need the option of buying from South Australian vendors where the Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island regions do not, or are unable to, produce varieties such as citrus and stone fruit.
Regardless of whether the stallholders are local or South Australian, having a variety of carefully selected, quality stallholders at the market provides choice, increases patronage and boosts the local economy.
