Let’s Save Mary’s Kitchen!

The Issue

Mary’s Kitchen has a long history of serving food to the homeless in Orange, beginning in 1984 with our founder, Mary McAnena, bringing food to the needy in Hart Park. Since 1994, the City of Orange has generously provided a 5-year renewable lease in their city yard so Mary’s Kitchen could expand our services. We are 100% donor funded.

Unfortunately, the City of Orange has now decided to terminate our Agreement, giving us a 90-day notice to vacate, with 30 days to stop our services! In 2019, The Mayor of Orange had approved and signed the current 5-year Agreement which does not expire until 2024.

Mary’s Kitchen serves about 200 breakfast, lunch and dinners, six days a week. We also provide showers, washers/dryers, health, dental and eye clinics, mail service, clothing, and referrals to housing. Just as important, we give our guests dignity, respect, a place to be safe, and to interact with others in a caring, nurturing environment.

If we have to stop serving, about 200 people a day and about 400 plus people altogether will not have access to the very basic need of daily nutritious food, besides all of the otherservices we offer. Many of our guests are seniors over 65 and/or disabled.

We ask that you please sign our petition to keep Mary’s Kitchen in service. We want to work with the City of Orange to maintain our mission. Please help us by asking the City of Orange to support Mary’s Kitchen!
