Clarksville,TX Demands the Removal of the Confederate Monument on the Town Square
The Issue
We the people of Red River County and surrounding areas present to you this petition for the removal of the sculpture of a Confederate soldier and the Confederate monument on the town square at 100 Broadway St, Clarksville, TX 75426. Symbols of hate and division have no place in our government. It's time to stand up for what's right and take down the Confederate Statue. Clarksville you confess your love for us especially when we are playing Basketball/ Football and working in your factories..with this monument present & highly decorated it is a slap in the face to all BLACK people!
We declare that if the city of Clarksville, TX believes we are of equal rights and justice is being served, then there is no prejudice. If all people are created equal then why are we celebrating this definition -What did the Confederates fight for? Status of the states in 1861.
Slavery was a major cause of disunion. Although there were opposing views even in the Union States, most northern soldiers were mostly indifferent on the subject of slavery. Most Confederates fought the war mainly to protect a southern society of which slavery was an integral part. If the city of Clarksville, TX does not believe in slavery, and that slavery was not okay; this monument celebrating this horrific time in history should not exist, and shall be removed immediately.
The Confederate Statue is not a symbol of southern pride but rather a symbol of rebellion and racism. With the unprecedented number of unarmed blacks citizen being murdered at the hands of Police. It is time the make a change. We must remove symbols that represent racism, superiority, and division from this community. It is time to put that symbol of rebellion and racism behind us and move toward healing and a better United States of America! Are you still protecting these past individuals that supported beating, raping, killing, selling blacks like livestock, mutilation, branding, and/or imprisonment. If not ..Sign the Petition to Demand that this confederate statue be taken down right now “We Believe Black Lives Matter”
