The choice should be yours on what is delivered to your mailbox - Wasaga Beach
The Issue
Every week, I find myself burdened with the task of recycling unwanted opinion papers that are not newspapers. In my opinion and mostly likely yours, these materials not only invade my personal space and are an inconvenience to me; it is also environmentally unfriendly, contributing to unnecessary waste. Everyone can opt out of flyers but you cannot opt out of the Community Paper Beach Booster which is not a newspaper as it does not meet journalistic standards of maintaining objectivity and fairness presenting information without bias however Canada Post continues to classify this as a Newspaper.
Canada Post's delivery of these unsolicited materials forces information on people who neither requested nor appreciate it. It's time for this to change.
We urge Canada Post to stop delivering these unwanted flyers and papers immediately when the receiver has opted out in accordance with the requirements on the Canada Post Website. This includes the Beach Booster which is not a newspaper as stated above however Canada Post continues to classify this paper as a community newspaper and it is not. By doing so, Canada Post would be taking a crucial step towards maintaining the high standards of what a newspaper is and respecting the personal boundaries of their customers. People should have a choice of what they are exposed to. Receiving this material is a choice as to whether you want it or not.
Please sign this petition if you believe in this cause. Save our environment and exposure to unwanted information. Let us work together towards a cleaner environment and a more respectful society where information is not forced upon us without our consent.
