Tell public health leaders to stop factory farms from causing the next pandemic

Tell public health leaders to stop factory farms from causing the next pandemic
The Issue
The coronavirus has forced us to take a hard look at our food system. This moment demands that we take bold action to stop the source of the next − and perhaps deadlier − pandemic before it begins: factory farming.
Sign our petition today. Join us in calling on public health leaders at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Senate Committee on Health, the World Health Organization, and the Gates Foundation to protect the food on our plates, farmed animals, and food chain workers by curbing the growth of factory farms.
According to the CDC, at least three out of every four new or emerging infectious diseases come from animals. The intensive confinement of genetically compromised animals on filthy, crowded factory farms has created a perfect breeding ground for viruses that can be transmitted from animals to people.
Over the last half-century, family farms have been replaced by these massive warehouses, in which pigs are locked into crates so small they cannot turn around, hens are denied space to spread their wings, and birds raised for meat are genetically manipulated to grow so large that they often can no longer walk by the time they reach slaughter age. It is here, in these dismal conditions, that pathogens thrive—and where the next potential outbreak could be lurking.
We have an opportunity to change public policy to protect our well being and the animals that feed us. Let's take action to prevent future pandemics.
Sign our petition to urge public health leaders to address the largest pandemic risk factor we face and stop the growth of factory farms.
