There are two types of tests, the more expensive PCR test and the less expensive Antigen test. To enter the UK and most other countries, you require a negative PCR test (average cost is £120-140 per person) and some countries also require you to take a rapid antigen test a few hours before you travel in addition. This is not even considering the cost of test to be taken in the foreign country.

Since 15 Feb, the UK government has added a requirement to take two further tests after arrival and during your 10 day quarantine (regardless of which country you travel from). There is only one provider you have to get this through, CTM North and it costs an additional £210. You have to take this test at home on day 2 and 8 after arriving into the UK.

Yes travellers need to be tested, we need to keep our country safe, but why are we being charged so much when we already pay enough taxes and have the NHS tests for a reason! 
The test kits which are sent are the NHS free test kits and if you don’t have anyone to post it back for you whilst you are in quarantine, you have to pay extra for a courier. As the results are posted by the NHS, I hope the money we pay goes to them and not to CTM North, which appears to be a private company.

I appreciate the government does not have the resources to check the validity of everyone’s reason for travel, and yes a control is necessary but some people have spent an additional £1000 for one adult and one child on top of standard flight costs etc. In such difficult times whether you can afford it or not is besides the point. It is great if you can afford it but for those who can’t and have no choice but to travel to look after a sick parent or attend a loved ones funeral which bares it’s own costs, to have to pay ridiculous amounts of money to get tested seems unjust. It is for that reason I felt the need to create this petition and your support would be much appreciated.
