Children are not born knowing how to hate. As they get older, either from their parents or peers, they learn how to fear what they don't understand. Mental illness is widely misunderstood. The stigma surrounding it makes it impossible to get the word out that the mentally ill need compassion. If we start kids early learning about mental illness/mental health perhaps there will be fewer instances of bullying and suicide. I want to teach kids about everything from Autism to Clinical Depression. Knowing the warning signs and learning the right way to address someone with a chronic mental illness will save lives.
