One thing that is great about the Democrats in America is that they fight hard for rights. The 1st Black president of the USA fought hard for Marriage Equality. Michael Bloomberg (and friend of Michael Dunkley) is a champion of Marriage Equality. For all the Bermudians that championed Barack Obama, they seem to completely forget about his Championing of LGBT rights. 20 #Bermuda #politicians recently attempted to legislate "DISCRIMINATION". ONE abstained. The denial and continued attempts to deny Marriage Equality must be set straight by the Supreme Court of Bermuda. Bermuda just celebrated Emancipation Day over our Cupmatch Holiday - We must ALL think hard about denying marriage rights to people who have a different sexual orientation. We have all come a long way. We have all made mistakes. Barack Obama came to see the injustice in denying marriage equality. Hilary Clinton came to see the injustice in denying marriage equality. Hilary Clinton said, "Women's Rights are Human Rights and Human Rights are Women's Rights". Clinton also said, "LGBT Rights are Human Rights and Human Rights are LGBT Rights". But 2O Bermudian politicians have not seen the injustice to date - they are the "INJUSTICE". Bermuda Members of Parliament voted to "legislate discrimination" by denying Same Sex Couples the right to marry the person they love and they will go down in history for this affront to equality. Thankfully, under the leadership of Senator Jeff Baron, the Upper House sent the legislation, shamefully brought to the lower house by PLP MP Wayne Furbert, back to the Lower House. When the majority would attempt to deny the rights of a minority we have the recourse of challenging such discrimination in the Supreme Court. We will keep you up to date on this progress.
