You know you’re doing something right when leaders on both sides of the political aisle can agree on something. Refreshingly both Prime Minister Rishi Sunak as well as leader of the opposition Sir Keir Stamer have publicly condemned the BBCs headstrong refusal to call Hamas ‘terrorists’.
BBC is making headlines for the wrong reason, with CNN calling out the BBC’s hypocrisy and Ofcom - the UK's communications regulator - having been called to investigate the matter with a legal letter scribed by Lord Wolfson KC, Lord Pannick KC, Lord Grabiner KC and Jeremy Brier KC.
Even people within the BBC feel compelled to take action. A Jewish BBC staff member Noah Abrahams has quit because of the abhorrent positioning of his employer calling it “unjustified”. We applaud his conviction! Words matter and have consequences!
You are on the right side of history. The fact that BBC standards and practice documents quote leadership from the 1980s as its positioning, underlies the essential and speediness in which it needs to change. Outdated policies don’t have place in a new world.
Lastly, please continue sharing this petition and thank you again for those of you who have donated to raise attention to this good fight. Again, we implore you to consider making donations to reputable charities that are helping on the ground instead of donating here. People much more in need of help deserve your hard earned money. We have enough financial support - but when you share on social media, email, WhatsApp’s or talk about it - that’s where we have the biggest impact and best of all it’s free.
Thank you again, stay safe and remember #wordsmatter
