Petition updateAUSTRALIAN KINSHIP CARERS NEED YOUR HELPDiscrimination of kids in kinship care continues

Year after year we fight, beg, and work hard to have our government [The Australian Government] recognise the children in kinship care are just as precious as any child. They should have every right afforded to them, to reach their full potential, to live their best life and to contribute positively to society. We are a first world country after all!

But every year the Australian government refuses to listen, to act or to change the blatant discrimination against these children. I say discrimination as this is exactly what it is. Child A can get their medical expenses met, their education supported, their needs met [which is all we want] but Child B, due to where they were born [the amount of support differs from state to state], who they were born to [no support offered if its deemed a FAMILY AGREEMENT], or who cares for them [family or foster] is deprived of the much needed assistance and their carers are left trying to survive below the poverty line.

Why is no one listening?

How can we be heard?

“They left me with nothing – with an expectation that I would just pull things out of a magic hat to give this child all its needs,” says Jane, who did not want her real name published.
