It is with a heavy heart that I read the outcome of a recent trial where the guilty party received 10 years for each life he stole (30 years). Yes I can say this at its two of our own who lost their precious grand babies to this monster.
I made a promise to never let this go until justice is seen to be done, and so I am asking, imploring you all, share this post and support the kinship carers in making not only the perpetrator, but the child protection system accountable for both their actions and inaction's. The two children who lost their lives were returned to the mother shortly before their death at the hands of her partner, despite warnings, despite pleas and despite logic. She was in a domestic violence relationship and could not protect herself, let a lone her children.
This is the tragic consequences when reunification goes wrong, but this is not an isolated incident, and until we have transparency within child protection Australia wide, this will happen again. And again and again.
Yes the man who murdered them is ultimately responsible, but the decisions made prior to their deaths by the very people employed to protect them must also be dissected, made know and held to account. Without this, there will be no change, there will be no alterations leading to improvement, it will stay as it is and more of Australia's most vulnerable will lose their lives.
Demand transparency, demand accountability and most of all demand an answer to why, in a first world country, do our children's lives not deserve the best protection we can give.
