A kinship kid living with family (Kinship carers) for a length of time who was thriving in their care, meeting milestones and who had a secure attachment to his carers, has been forcibly removed with no reunification process, as stated on their website ‘Reunifying a child with his or her birth parents is not a one-time event. Rather, it is a process involving the reintegration of the child into a family environment that may have changed significantly from the environment the child left’. They (DHHS) have decided that now is the best time and quick is the best option. Now in a perfect world this may indeed be the best option, but the world we live in is far from perfect. The biological parents who have now had the child thrown into their care have not, let me repeat this, have not completed any of the requirements set by DHHS or the courts, they have not, been given any training in rearing a child and they have not been slowly reintegrated into said child's world. This child is now faced with 1 a foreign environment 2 trauma from the initial removal and now being returned 3 trauma from being ripped from his safe space and protector just to mention 3 issues a blind man could see. But wait there's more.............. The government in their attempt to reduce out of home care figures by reunification have provided a worker for this family as the bio parents cannot be with the child alone! I could go on but Im sure your bored by now as this doesn't affect you..................well not now anyway!
