No wonder the biological parents accuse us of "stealing" their children with attitudes and a culture such as this within Child Protection. No where have I ever read "oh you know, we were sitting comfortable after working all our lives, paying taxes and dreaming of living the dream, but you know at 65 we thought, hey lets take on a child with severe trauma, many behavioural issues and medical expenses just because we can" Can I suggest that there are no 'Protective concerns" from the department as after numerous calls from mandatory reporters, relatives and others, Facs have failed to assess the safety of the child. Can I also suggest that even if initial assessment has been done the case notes mysteriously disappear. Oh and here is another suggestion. "The grandparents are actively trying to protect these kids and if we leave it long enough they will remove them and we will not have to have another case on our already unrealistic caseload." There is obviously a culture within Child Protection that we are part of the problem. This needs to be addressed before any forward movement can be taken to redress the crisis currently being faced by an inadequate system.
