Petition updateAUSTRALIAN KINSHIP CARERS NEED YOUR HELPAnother innocent child placed at risk by those employed to protect him

Little Johnny (under 3 years of age) has only known the care and protection of his grandmother his whole life. Intermittent visits with biological parents but always returned to the safe and nurturing environment of his primary carers. Until this happened! Little Johnny was unwell and after visiting the doctor, Grandma was advised to keep little Johnny at home, away from day-care and contact with the general public. In the weeks prior to this Grandma had lodged a complaint with Child Protection regarding the bullying behaviours of their case worker. On this day that little Johnny was sick, the 'same case worker' turned up to convey the child to an access visit with his biological parent, having been advised previously the little Johnny was too ill to go that day. The case worker (same one that the bullying allegations had been made against) then threatened the Grandmother that if she did not consent to the access it would cause her more trouble than she knew, and so little Johnny was taken out into the cold, feeling terrible, to be escorted by someone he was not familiar with to someone he had met on a few previous occasions but had no bond nor a sense of security with. Remember this is a child under 3. Expecting their precious grandson to be returned that evening, just after 5pm ( and affording them no recourse) they received an phone call from the service saying little Johnny would not be returned due to concerns about his safety with them. (Nearly 3 years of prior caring and no concerns ever arose) He was to remain with the biological parent whom Child Protection had only 1 month before flagged serious concerns about their ability to care for the child. The reason the child was removed “apparently Grandma called the worker a bitch as she walked from her door and yelled at her in front of GS” This child was removed from his only secure attachment based on the word of a case worker who is being investigated for bullying. So how to get the child back where he belongs. Child protection has not followed their own mandate, nor have they considered the best interests of the child. It may take weeks for them to process their failures, all the time this child is in the care of someone they themselves have not given clearance for. Grandma is going out of her mind realising the impact this will have on Little Johnny, worrying about the harm that will be caused in an unknown environment. Imagining his scared little face, knowing he wants to come home and not understanding why the person he has felt so secure with all his life is not coming to pick him up. She has exhausted all possible options including the Commissioner for Children; however no one is prepared to step in or step up and fight for the rights of this child. Once again this is not an isolated incident; far too often those paid to protect the interests of children are blatantly ignoring their own procedures and policies, and operating on their own tangent. With no way to redress this, it is causing immeasurable harm to both the innocent children and those that care for them. Please continue to share our Petition, enough is enough, action needs to be taken but without your help and support, nothing will change. Thank you again from all of us.
