Good afternoon,

On Monday, 6 May, we presented the petition you signed to restore the cross on the summit of Mt Roskill to the Tupuna Maunga Authority.

The Authority received our petition courteously and said they would consider our community's request.

Unfortunately, we are not very hopeful of meaningful change on this issue, because of the decisions the Authority has made on similar issues.

For example, the Authority intends to remove non-native vegetation (including heritage trees) on the mountains, and to remove memorials.

Of course, we remain hopeful that the Authority will become more reasonable and grant our request. We continue to be open to good-faith discussion with any body which cares to listen.

Some organisations and individuals are willing to listen. The MP for Mt Roskill, Michael Wood, will be having a meeting with us very soon to discuss this matter.

In the mean time, we have issued a media release as we hope to gain attention to the issue of the Maunga Authority:
