💜 ANNOUNCEMENT: THE ANNETTE ACT IS GOING ON 9NEWS

I have a HUGE update. This Wednesday, September 16, my story and the fight behind The Annette Act will be airing on 9NEWS during the 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM news. Reha from 9NEWS has taken the time to hear my story, hear why I started this fight, and why I believe our domestic violence laws desperately need change. And I need all of you now more than ever. We are currently at 437 signatures, and our next goal is 500. But I don’t want to stop at 500. I want thousands. I want enough voices behind this movement that the people with the power to change these laws cannot ignore us. I have been speaking with lawmakers. I have put an enormous amount of work into a comprehensive domestic violence reform proposal, and right now, only one piece of that much larger proposal is being considered for legislative work. I am grateful that any part is being heard, but one change is not enough to fix a system with multiple gaps. I have heard people say that something like this shouldn’t have to go to the ballot. Maybe it shouldn’t. But if lawmakers are not willing to seriously consider comprehensive reform, then survivors and communities have to keep finding ways to make our voices impossible to ignore. This was never supposed to be just about Annette. Her story is part of it. My story is part of it. Every survivor who made it out is part of it. And every woman, man, and child who never got the chance to make it out is part of it. Domestic violence is not something we should only care about after another person is killed.
