FERAL CATS IN DANGER: CHERRY HILL NJ

FERAL CATS IN DANGER: CHERRY HILL NJ
The Issue
The owner of the Academy of Gymnastics and Cheerleading located at 5 Larwin Rd, Cherry Hill, NJ is threatening to trap a feral cat colony that resides in the woods beyond their property. This colony of 15+ is sterilized, vaccinated, and maintained by experienced caregivers. When the cats are trapped they will be taken to Camden County Animal Shelter, where they will sit in a cage for seven days, terrified, before they are killed. They are not adoptable. We have explained this to the owner and his response was “I don’t know what happens to them”. It’s obvious that he just doesn’t care what happens to them. Camden Shelter is highly overpopulated and actually encourages TNR.
The colony resides in the woods beyond their place of business and like all wildlife, they wander on “private property” especially when they are being fed on that same private property. Their staff and clients were feeding the cats on the property. We have asked that they not feed the cats as they are fed daily, in the woods. The owner originally told us we had to find a way to keep the cats from his property by next summer, but yesterday that changed. A cat caregiver was harassed by a male staff member and a no trespassing sign has been installed in attempt to keep us away and to cut off the colony’s food source.
These cats were trapped last year and taken to the shelter to be killed, at the request of Bancroft School. Sadly, this resulted in one cat being killed. With help we were able to return the others back to their home. With help, thousands signed the petition to save the colony and many contacted Bancroft urging them to stop the cruelty. It worked. It can work again.
These cats pose no threat to anyone. They fear humans. They are feral and NOT adoptable. They are happy living outdoors, where they are. They deserve to live freely. They deserve respect and compassion like all wildlife.
