Make Votes Matter is sending an open letter to the new Minister for the Constitution - asking him to live up to his rhetoric by giving Proportional Representation full and fair consideration. We want to invite you to sign it - and to add a personal message of your own about why the UK needs real democracy. Last month, the new Minister responded to our previous open letter to his predecessor, John Penrose. Mr Skidmore's letter repeats the false claim that the 2011 AV Referendum showed that the British people do not want Proportional Representation, and failed to respond to the issues we raised about disproportionality of Parliamentary seats and the exclusion of millions of voters from representation in the House of Commons. Our new open letter calls on the Minister and Prime Minister to put these principles into practice by making a full, fair and public assessment of our electoral system and the need for PR. As well as signing the letter, you have the opportunity to add a short comment of your own. You can use this to say why we need PR, what's wrong with the current system, why the Alternative Vote Referendum should not be the final word on electoral reform, or something else - it's up to you.
