We, the undersigned, urge policymakers to reverse or immediately revise the recent hemp ban that takes effect July 31. This sudden restriction will cause immediate and severe harm to hemp retailers, small businesses, workers, and consumers—especially those who rely on lawful hemp products.

The current policy threatens economic stability for local stores and could result in sudden closures, lost jobs, and financial devastation for entrepreneurs who have invested in compliant inventory and storefront operations. Many hemp retailers operate transparently, educate customers, and follow existing regulations; a sweeping ban removes businesses from the market overnight without a practical transition plan.

We also call attention to the public impact. Confusion over what is allowed may push consumers away from legitimate, regulated products and toward unsafe alternatives. It may also encourage enforcement that disrupts lawful commerce rather than targeting real wrongdoing.

We are asking for a responsible policy response that protects lawful businesses and communities, provides clear guidance, and allows a transition period rather than an abrupt shutdown.

To the officials responsible for hemp regulation and enforcement:

We request the following actions regarding the hemp ban effective July 31:

Revoke or revise the hemp ban to avoid shutting down lawful businesses that have operated in good faith and complied with existing requirements.

Issue clear, written guidance immediately on what products are allowed, what documentation is required, and how enforcement will be handled—so businesses and customers are not left in confusion. 

Implement a grace period and transition timeline that allows existing inventory to be sold or otherwise handled legally, preventing sudden losses and layoffs.

Create a licensing or compliance pathway for responsible retailers and manufacturers to continue operating while meeting any updated standards.

Require enforcement to target actual violations , not lawful commerce.
