Southwest Crossing Community Initiative: Save Our Community, End Environmental Racism

The Issue

PETITION

We are a grassroots community volunteer group from the Southwest Crossing Community and Southwest Houston area.

We want our children and families to have a safe environment to live, learn and grow.

In the summer of 2021, when CenterPoint Energy began constructing its 5th propane facility in Texas near our homes, our safety was immediately threatened.

Liquid propane is a highly flammable gas, and potential leaks and ignition sources can cause an explosion.

An additional facility sits 3 miles away holding 360,000 gallons of propane, totaling to 660,000 of propane in the area. This puts our community's safety at high risk.

We started this petition to express our disapproval of the 300,000-gallon storage facility being placed near our homes.

We want CenterPoint, The Rail Road Commission, The City of Houston and Governor Abbot's Office to realize that this plant is a health and safety hazard.

We have contacted the Texas Railroad Commission, Texas State & City Officials, the Houston Independent School District, and local community leaders and organizations to notify of the danger this facility presents our community.

We need everyone's support.

Environmental racism and injustice continues to persist in Texas and we want to stand up to protect our communities of color.

Please sign and share this petition. Each signature is a stand for justice.
