The Issue

Personal Independence Payment (PIP) has significantly helped individuals with long-term ill-health or disability in the UK since its introduction in April 2013. This financial assist comes in the form of cash payments, granting recipient autonomy and flexibility. Disturbingly, recent maneuvers are guiding these PIP cash payments towards being converted into vouchers, potentially limiting the personal agency of beneficiaries.

Statistics from the Office for National Statistics reveal that approximately 2 million individuals depend on PIP in the UK. The shift to vouchers may diminish the quality of life of these 2 million people who utilize these payments to accommodate their personal needs, ranging from transportation to special care services. Furthermore, vouchers might not be accepted everywhere, hence causing unnecessary inconvenience and potentially excluding some recipients from essential services.

We firmly believe in the principle of individual freedom and choice for all, especially those living with disabilities. The proposed shift to voucher payments undermines this fundamental principle. We urge HM Government to carefully consider the implications of such a decision. Please show your support for these vulnerable individuals by signing this petition, which calls for a termination of the conversion of PIP cash payments into vouchers. Please sign and help preserve autonomy and choice for PIP beneficiaries.
