I, like many others across the nation, am desperately looking for a transformation. I am deeply troubled about the current guardianship and conservatorship laws in the United States, which result in individuals losing their fundamental rights and freedoms. According to these laws, an individual can be appointed as a guardian or conservator over someone else, standing between them and their means to live a normal life. I firmly believe that this is unjust and should end and make this illegal. 

According to a report from the National Council on Disability, it is estimated that there are 1.3 million adults under guardianship in the U.S., with approximately $50 billion in assets (2018). The report also highlighted the major issues in our guardianship system, such as lack of oversight, potential for abuse, and the curtailment of individual rights. These facts underline the severity of this issue and the urgent need for reform.

In a country that prides itself on the principles of freedom and justice, it is vital to question the ethics behind these laws which endow someone with unparalleled power over another person's life. By signing this petition, we urge our lawmakers to revamp these archaic laws that challenge the very basic liberties that our nation was built upon. Let us unite for a change and work towards a future where every individual has the right to live their life independently, free from the oppressive weight of guardianship and conservatorship. This is slavery and in my opinion,I think not only should the victims of this offense should be pardoned but maybe start prosecuting the conservators and guardians since I think this should be a crime and not to mention a felony . Because this form of modern day slavery is corrupting the American people and system. I also believe not only should this type of system be discontinued and abolished but,the current guardians should be arrested and prosecuted anyone else who puts people through this and causing them to be victimized by this type of slavery should also be arrested and prosecuted being that can be considered solicitation.
