I am writing out of a deep-seated concern stirred from my own experience watching family vlog channels. I have seen instances where children are being abused and exploited. Our online environments, once thought as safe spaces, are now turning into platforms of exploitation, damaging the innocent lives of children. A recent study has found that over 90% of family vloggers had at least one violation of child privacy laws in their videos (Krause et al., 2020). This statistic is not just a number but a stark reminder of how these platforms are misused recklessly, jeopardizing the mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing of these children. We have a moral and societal obligation to protect our kids and ensure their privacy and childhood are not traded for views and profitability. They deserve a life away from constant surveillance and voyeurism, they deserve to have a life not dictated by likes, shares, or comments. I call upon you all to raise your voice against this violation and exploitation.
