The issue
As an Iranian, I've witnessed the corruption, repression, and violence executed by the Islamic Republic of Iran, deeply impacting my people. The government, notorious for persecution and grave human rights abuses, benefits from the silence and inaction of global institutions. While ordinary Iranians suffer under this oppressive regime, it is disheartening to see close relatives of senior regime figures enjoying privileged positions in notable international entities such as Deutsche Bank.
Maryam Fereydoun, currently occupying the position of Head of Middle East & Latin America Deposits in Deutsche Bank's Private Banking division, is a niece of former Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and the daughter of Hossein Fereydoun. Hossein has been publicly linked with senior figures in the Islamic Republic's power structure, including connections to entities associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The IRGC has been designated as a terrorist organization by multiple governments, highlighting the concerning affiliations of the Fereydoun family within the Iranian regime's network.
By allowing Maryam Fereydoun to occupy this distinguished role within Deutsche Bank, the institution, whether consciously or not, disregards the suffering and struggles faced by the Iranian people. This situation sends a distressing signal that those connected to an oppressive regime can smoothly transition into esteemed positions without accountability.
Therefore, we urge Deutsche Bank to reconsider its association with Maryam Fereydoun and terminate her employment. This action will not only demonstrate solidarity with the Iranian people but also signify a stand against regimes that thrive on corruption and human rights abuses. It will further encourage accountability and reflect an alignment with global values promoting human rights and justice.
Your support in signing and sharing this petition is crucial. Help us hold accountable those connected to regimes with histories of oppression and violence. Together, we can voice the call for justice and make an impactful change.
