Ten-Day Accountability Act: No Pay for Congress While the Government is Shut Down

Ten-Day Accountability Act: No Pay for Congress While the Government is Shut Down
The Issue
I’m tired of Congress using us! the American people, as leverage for their own agenda.
They were elected to serve the people, not themselves.
Every time there’s a government shutdown, it’s not them who suffer ,it’s federal workers! the men and women who keep this country running. They’re the backbone of this nation, showing up day after day, even when they’re not getting paid, just trying to hold things together while Washington play their games.
These people have families. They’ve got bills, kids to feed, and responsibilities like everyone else. They’re not pawns for political posturing. Yet that’s exactly what they’ve been turned into... bargaining chips in Congress’s endless power struggle.
Let me make this clear. This isn’t about Democrats or Republicans.
This isn’t about who’s in the White House.
This is about ACCOUNTABILITY! It’s about fairness. It’s about remembering that those in Congress work for US, not the other way around.
Here’s the deal:
If the government shuts down, every member of Congress and the Senate loses 10% of their monthly salary per day of the shutdown.
Example: if it lasts 2 days that's 20%, 5 days 50%.
If it hits 10 days, they lose their entire month’s pay.
No loopholes.
No tax write-offs.
No “donations” they can use for publicity or tax cuts.
That money goes straight into a Federal Worker Relief Fund to help the people actually keeping this nation alive during the shutdown.
This Is Personal
As a veteran, I’ve been in leadership. I’ve seen what it’s like to have people depending on you. And here’s the truth , leadership isn’t about power. It’s about responsibility.
You can’t control every decision your team makes, but you set the standard. You take the hit when they fail. You don’t hide behind excuses.
That’s what real leadership looks like , something Congress has forgotten.
Shutdowns aren’t games. They hurt real people.
Families go without paychecks. Veterans miss appointments. Agencies fall behind. And for what? So politicians can point fingers and score points on TV?
Enough Is Enough
If Congress truly cared about this country, they’d pay the federal workers first and argue later. Pass a continuing resolution, fund the people doing the work, and then settle your political fights like adults.
But if they can’t handle that basic responsibility, then they should feel the same pain the rest of America does when the checks stop coming.
Ten days. That’s it.
A government shutdown should never drag beyond that point.
Each day after is a failure and failures have consequences.
What This Petition Demands:
We’re calling for Congress to pass the Ten-Day Accountability Act, which will:
Deduct 10% of congressional pay for every day of a shutdown.
Prohibit refunds, donations, or tax deductions for that lost pay.
Send the forfeited money to a Federal Worker Relief Fund.
Cap shutdowns at 10 days, forcing Congress to put the nation before their egos.
This is a bipartisan call for action. It’s not about left or right, it’s about doing what’s right.
Our federal workers deserve better.
Our veterans deserve better.
Our country deserves better.
No worker in America should go without pay because politicians can’t do their jobs.
We’ve had enough.

Let’s hold Congress accountable, not with words, but with consequences.
