Compassion Over Killing just launched mobile ads urging the National Chicken Council to give cruel “nose bones” the boot at its board meeting at the International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE) in Atlanta. Join our crucial fight today with a life-saving donation to COK’s work!

Because today’s “broiler” birds are genetically manipulated for unnatural, crippling rapid growth, dull plastic “nose bones” are stabbed through the sensitive nostrils of male “breeder” birds to restrict their food intake. But since COK’s Tyson investigation exposed “nose boning,” one worker has been convicted of animal cruelty for this practice, and 17 of the top 20 chicken producers in the US have confirmed to COK that they’re eliminating or do not use these archaic devices.

With “nose bones” set to fly the coop, it’s time for the voice of the poultry industry, the National Chicken Council, to catch up by updating its own policies! That’s why COK appealed to the NCC last fall, writing, “Given that the overwhelming majority of the poultry industry has now either eliminated the use of ‘nose bones’ or never engaged in using them…it seems fitting for the National Chicken Council to update and amend its Guidelines to prohibit this barbaric, outdated practice.”

To fly the message home, we sent costumed chickens flocking to the NCC’s annual meeting to urge it to give “nose bones” the boot once and for all. And during the demonstration, Tom Super, NCC Senior VP of Communications, confirmed that almost no one in the industry still uses “nose bones”--and that the council will consider this issue in its next review of its welfare guidelines.

But the NCC has since been mum on COK’s request. So we’ve launched cell phone ads targeting the more than 30,000 representatives of the poultry industry attending IPPE, calling on the council to give “nose bones” the boot.

We need YOUR help to keep showing the poultry industry that it’s time to get rid of cruel “nose bones” for good. Make a generous donation to COK’s work TODAY to spread the wingspan of our work! Click here to donate in just a few clicks--it’s fast, easy, and secure.

Thank you for your compassion!
