TELL THE UNC BOARD OF GOVERNORS TO KEEP DEI (DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION) PROGRAMS

The Issue

The UNC Board of Governors has put into motion a vote to repeal DEI programs in all 17 schools of the UNC school system. Minority students and people that are actively engaged and affected by said programs are concerned over what this could mean for them and their college experience. There are over 84 anti-DEI bills that have been proposed in 2023 in 10 states than include North Carolina, Alabama and Florida just to name a few.

-FACTS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF DEI PROGRAMS
Studies have shown that college students exposed to more diversity have greater levels of cultural awareness and political participation.
Scholars credit DEI policies and programs as one way to combat inequality by encouraging multiculturalism and providing resources for people of different backgrounds.
Data shows, DEI efforts help create an academic community that generates a higher enrollment rate, matriculation rate, and eventual success rate.
DEI is for students with disabilities, veterans with PTSD, minority students, and students who are New Americans who may need extra help due to language or cultural barriers.
