Dear signers,
I am writing to you again after a long pause, as Syria is now descending into a spiral of dramatic violence.
The hope for a peaceful Syria rooted in justice hangs in the balance. The UN and international governments must act now to support Syrians in their efforts to stop spiralling violence and protect the hard-won opportunity to rebuild the country after so many decades of war.
In Southern Syria, armed groups have carried out killings, sniper attacks, and forced people from their homes. People are afraid and the fear is spreading across the country. Israel also attacked our cities and bombed Damascus, claiming to protect the Druze minority but in reality deepening divisions and fueling the conflict.
Syrians are calling at this moment, where there is an opportunity to build a new country, for an end to the killing, for justice and a national dialogue, that includes women, minorities and all people, so that they can hold the perpetrators of crimes — past and present — to account.
