165,000 people have now signed this petition asking the UK government to stop approving new oil and gas fields. Will you share it with your friends and family to help us reach even more people?

Since I started this petition two years ago, our government has continued pushing ahead with disastrous new oil and gas projects. In September, Rishi Sunak and his government made the catastrophic decision to approve Rosebank, the biggest undeveloped oil field in the UK which would produce as much CO2 pollution as the world’s 700 million poorest people produce in a whole year.

Now that Rosebank has been approved, we are ramping up our efforts. Following the government's decision to approve Rosebank, Uplift and Greenpeace announced their intention to take forward two legal challenges against the decision. We saw thousands of people take to the streets at over 40 demonstrations across the UK. We've seen cross-party parliamentary support for our campaign with MPs from all major parties speaking out against the field.

I believe and have seen first hand that so many people across the UK are sick and tired of profiteering oil giants being allowed to get away with raking in billions in profit from new oil fields, while 6 million UK households are in fuel poverty, and the climate crisis looms closer over our heads. We've seen the catastrophic effects of 1.2°C of global heating. We can't just sit back and watch our government pour more fuel on the fire.

I want to ask you to help me get this petition into the hands of concerned citizens across the UK and beyond. Please share this petition with as many of your friends and family as you can.

Thank you for everything you're doing to stand up against new oil and gas.

In solidarity,

Lauren
