Tell the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs not to close the Houston Consulate General

The Issue

The Consulate General of Norway in Houston has been Norway's diplomatic mission in the city since 1977 and now MFA has surprisingly decided to close this posting by the summer of 2023.

The Houston CG provides consular services for the states of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, home to 25% of US population. Houston is becoming the leader in technology development within aerospace, health, sustainability, shipping and energy, all of which are defined as core and future growth areas for Norway. Texas is among the fastest growing state in the US with major tech and clean energy business’ all relocating to, and Houston representing hundreds of Norwegian business and thousands of Norwegian citizens, one of the biggest Norwegian hubs in the world.

The Consulate General is actively engaged in promoting the development of commercial, economic, cultural and scientific relations between Houston and Norway. It is also a vital partner for the other entities promoting Norwegian culture, technology and business interests, such as the Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce (NACC), Innovation Norway NORWEP and the Norwegian Seamen’s Church.

What message is Norway giving to the industry in Houston, the US and the world? Are we withdrawing from the global cooperation and discussion on key security topics? Eliminating such an important diplomatic mission in an area that is of the highest economic importance for Norway and its interests in the world's largest economy, just does not make sense!

NACC wishes to take action and ask you urgently to sign this petition which we will be included in a formal letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Please distribute to all your friends of Norway and let yourself be heard !!!

Thank you for your support.
