Tell the judge: One day is not justice for Breonna Taylor

Tell the judge: One day is not justice for Breonna Taylor
The Issue
Brett Hankison, former officer convicted in Breonna Taylor case, to be sentenced today - Monday, July 21 - in federal court!
Breonna Taylor’s name sparked a nationwide movement for justice. She was killed in her own home during a botched police raid in 2020.
Now, one of the officers involved—Brett Hankison—has finally been convicted. But the U.S. Department of Justice just recommended he serve a single day in prison.
One day.
After firing blindly through a covered window and door. After putting an entire apartment complex at risk. After helping set in motion the chain of violence that ended Breonna’s life.
This is not accountability. It’s an insult.
Breonna’s mother, Tamika Palmer, and her legal team are urging the judge to ignore the DOJ’s recommendation and impose a sentence that reflects the seriousness of the conviction. We stand with them.
We are calling on Judge Rebecca Grady Jennings to uphold the law, respect the jury’s verdict, and sentence Brett Hankison in line with federal guidelines—not political convenience.
One day behind bars for violating someone’s rights sends the message that accountability doesn’t apply to those in uniform. It sets a dangerous precedent. And it denies what Breonna’s name has come to represent: the right to live and be protected—no matter who you are or where you sleep.
Justice for Breonna Taylor means more than words. It means action.
