Hello all! The last 24 hours have been absolutely incredible, with the petition reaching over 65,000 signatures this morning, and still rising. I'm absolutely overwhelmed and cannot begin to thank each and every one of you who has signed and shared the campaign. Those of you who have been on board from the beginning will have noticed a slight change - after initially targeting all UK retailers it was decided that by targeting one retailer we would have more of a focus to the campaign and therefore a higher chance of success. Whilst fast food restaurants like McDonalds are already being called upon, Tesco are the market leader of supermarkets in the UK and having seen them make positive changes regarding environmental issues recently, they have proved that they are willing to make change and listen to their customers. I hope that if we can get Tesco to switch out disposable plastic straws to an environmentally friendly alternative, then we could put the pressure on other supermarkets and retailers to follow suit. But first we need to get as much awareness behind the campaign and put the pressure on Tesco to make the first steps. Please continue to share the campaign via social media so we can continue to spread the message - the more signatures we get the more likely Tesco are going to listen to us. The next step is to reach 75,000 signatures and we are so, so close! Thank you SO MUCH for all of your support. In the meantime each and every one of us can make a difference by asking for #nostrawplease !
