Dear Supporters, Since January, NJJN member Just City has served as counsel to a teenage girl (Jane Doe) caught in prison; Just City led fierce advocacy on her behalf; and ultimately helped reform an unfair and inhumane local policy that resulted in teenage girls being sent to prison to await trial. Our model for change worked! Earlier this week, Tennessee passed a law that prohibits the transfer of children to prisons before they have been adjudicated. And they did it only 97 days after we discovered the problem. In the timeline attached, we detail the steps we took along the way to this major reform. With the governor's signature, Shelby County will have re-take custody of both T.W. and R.H. and either house them in the adult jail, which would likely lead to them losing their accreditation, or transfer her back to juvenile detention. We'll update you again soon. Check out the timeline of events here: http://njjn.org/uploads/digital-library/JC%20Timeline.png
