Update on Jane Doe and Help Keep Youth Out of Shelby County's Adult Jails and Prisons!

National Juvenile Justice Network
12 avr. 2018
Thanks for your support of Jane Doe. A quick update: 1. Jane Doe has been moved to various facilities and is currently still housed in a wing of an adult facility where she is held separate and apart from everyone else in relative isolation. 2. Legislation to change the safekeeping statute so that sheriff's can hold transferred youth in juvenile facilities is actively being pushed. 3. A resolution is being proposed at the County Commission level which aims to address the County’s transfer of young girls. As part of the effort, advocates are trying to raise awareness of the harms of housing youth in adult jails and prisons. Support Jane Doe and other youth like her by calling for an end to transferring youth to adult jails.
