Border Patrol says "no" to letting them hug - let's build a binational park instead

Sep 21, 2017 — Friends: Thank you for signing our "Let Them Hug" petition. Below you will find the reply we received from San Diego Border Patrol. Rather than take this as a defeat, we have decided to treat it as a stepping stone, and now are championing a larger vision of a truly bi-national park. Please sign our new petition, asking the Presidents of the United States and Mexico to "prototype" friendship by creating a truly bi-national park at Friendship Park into a truly bi-national park. The Friends of Friendship Park RESPONSE FROM US BORDER PATROL “The U.S. Border Patrol, San Diego Sector has read the “Let Them Hug” petition submitted by the Friends of Friendship Park via the Change.org website. The petition requests that the Border Patrol allow people visiting Friendship Park to make physical contact with people on the south side of the primary fence during the periods when Friendship Circle is open to the public (Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00am to 2:00pm). After reviewing the petition, San Diego Sector has determined it will not authorize physical contact through the primary border fence on a regular basis. Per the current policy, San Diego Sector will continue to evaluate specifically requested events and make a determination on a case-by-case basis.” Please feel free to contact me with any questions or suggestions you may have.
