So here we are, January 2019. Happy New Year everybody, I hope you had a happy, peaceful and cruelty-free Christmas. So, where are we up to with this Raystede thing? Let's sum up.
We started the petition two and a half years ago and so far haven't had a single direct response from anyone at Raystede. We have, however, had several indirect responses:
- Seven trustees have resigned
- Polite letter writers have been warned by Police that the trustees don't like their letters.
- Raystede's CEO has resigned and gone to work at a sanctuary in Northern Ireland.
There are now new trustees to replace the old plus a couple of oldies still hanging on in there. And we want them to hang in there. We don't want them to resign. We're not trying to upset them. We're simply asking, as nicely as we possibly can, that they don't cause animal suffering by having animals killed for their cafe. It's really not much to ask. So simple to achieve.
It's so sad that people would rather resign their positions than make the cafe cruelty-free. Or perhaps they resigned in protest because they wanted the cafe to be cruelty free but were outvoted. We can only speculate.
Anyway, all we've done is sign a petition and write letters and look at the effect we're having! Thank you so much to everyone who's kept on writing – please do continue. We will get there, I promise you. It's only a matter of time. It's simply not logical for an animal sanctuary to keep selling the products of cruelty when the rest of the mainstream is moving towards veganism at an unprecedented rate. It's embarrassing for them to be trailing behind on this issue.
Thanks again everyone for your continued support on this campaign. Please keep writing to Raystede and ask them to make their cafe fully vegan.
Please keep your letters polite, thank you.
